Missed diagnoses like Mary’s are heartbreaking and happen all too frequently. An early diagnosis is so important and it’s simply not fair for people affected by this awful disease to be left wondering “what if?”.
I’d been on antibiotics for months to treat a ‘chest infection’ and would probably have been on them for months more had my GP not been ill and phoned in sick. I often think of the locum who covered for my GP – he saved my life that day.
Early diagnosis shouldn’t be down to the luck of the draw, to whether your GP phones in sick or not. So please, if you haven’t already, sign Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation’s petition and let’s roll out a national lung health check.
